PADI DIVING COURSES

PREREQUISITES:
Be certified as a PADI Divemaster or leadership level with another diver training organization.
Be at least 18 years old.
Submit a Medical Statement for a diving medical examination conducted within the past 12 months. A licensed physician must sign the form and state that the candidate is fit for diving. The physician signing the medical clearance cannot be the applicant.
Have been a certified diver for at least six months and have completed and logged at least 60 dives showing experience in night diving, deep diving and underwater navigation (as documented in your log book). 100 for intructor exam (IE)
Submit proof of CPR and first aid training within the last 24 months.
Submit documentation of any qualifying certifications for entry level, advanced, rescue and leadership level, issued by another recreational diver training organization.
COURSE CONSISTS OF:
Formal training in conducting PADI diver programs and experience programs, independent study assignments, practical application sessions and written examinations.
AS A N ASSISTANT SCUBA INSTRUCTOR YOU WILL:
1. Act as an instructional assistant, assume limited teaching responsibilities beyond the responsibilities and duties you already have as PADI Divemaster.
2. Present the academic elaboration for any diver course under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor. The Instructor must personally assess student knowledge development (i.e. review Knowledge reviews and review quizzes and final exams)
3. During confined water dives, present initial skills training under the direct supervision of a PADI Instructor
4. Conduct open water surface skill evaluations during open water course training dives, under the indirect supervision of a PADI instructor
5. Teach and certify PADI peak performance buoyancy speciality divers, under the direction of a PADI instructor.
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) rating is the first instructor level attained by PADI dive professionals. During their training, instructor candidates review PADI; standards, procedures, philosophies and teaching methods as well as their practical teaching ability, dive skills and knowledge.
After successfully completing the instructor examination (IE), OWSIs take responsibility for introducing people to scuba diving through various PADI programs and courses.
Teaching status Instructors may conduct the entire range of PADI programs from discover scuba diving up to divemaster (except for specialities which require specific speciality instructor ratings).
TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION
PADI Instructor Development has two phases; A training phase and an evaluation phase. Completion of the training phase is met by taking a complete instructor development course (IDC).
The PADI Instructor Examination (IE) is the evaluation phase of the PADI Instructor Development process. Instructor candidates who have successfully completed an IDC may enrol in a PADI IE conducted by a PADI Instructor Examiner.
On the PADI IE. YOU WILL BE EVALUATED ON:
1. Dive theory
2. Academic teaching
3. Confined water (pool) teaching
4. Open water teaching
5. General diving skills and professionalism.
